Thank you for visiting  the Marcelo Garcia Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu  Academy.  As most people know BJJ is a big part of the Mixed Martial Arts world (MMA). We can build this very important part of your MMA game!

Marcelo Garcia is an internationally renowned teacher and competitor of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling. He has won the World Championships at all belt levels (blue, purple, brown, and 5 times as a black belt), and the Submission Grappling World Championships (ADCC) four times (2003, 2005, 2007, 2011).  He was voted the most technical competitor in 2003 and 2007 at ADCC, and a participant in the best match of 2005.

Students can train to enter sports grappling tournaments, or just train for physical fitness and self defense purposes.  Students participate in sparring and rolling according to their skill level and training objectives. Technical drilling, rolling, and sparring are an important part of training at the academy. All students must master the technical aspects of BJJ at their level prior to advancing to the next level of training.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that teaches students to defend themselves using take downs, leverage, proper posture, joint locks, chokes, and strikes. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, although obviously similar in many respects to Japanese Jiu Jitsu, differs in some fundamental ways. Jiu-Jitsu was initially developed by the samurai of feudal Japan as a method of defeating an armored opponent. Punching and kicking an armored opponent is not very effective, so the samurai would use Jiu-Jitsu to defeat his enemy. In 1914 Mitsuyo Maeda brought Jiu-Jitsu to Brazil. In 1916 Carlos Gracie started training with Maeda and it was the Gracie family that modified and created the system of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that we practice today.

MMA is a contact combat sport using a wide variety of fighting techniques. We specialize in Brazilian Jujitsu grappling techniques. Students practice grappling techniques while standing and on the ground.  Students with previous martial arts experience are encouraged to continually practice what they have learned previously while incorporating what they learn at our school.

Kick Boxing is a contact sport using a wide variety of striking techniques. Students practice both punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes while standing and on the ground.  Because students and instructors share skills from other martial arts systems.

Intelligent Fighter Training Programs are dynamic and promote fighter education, physical ability, and technical growth.  We are dedicated to helping you become a great martial artist.  Every martial arts student is unique and we use technology to help transfer information to students with different learning styles, physical ability, and prior martial arts experience.  Each student will be given an ID and Password to access online videos, nutrition recommendations, technical material, and quizzes.
